I'd expect it to work without any extra tricks. You need quotes only
if you have whitespace, or to turn off wild-card matching of * and ? .
The logic is: if there are only upper case chain ids in the pdb file,
both e.g.
  chain a
and
  chain A
will match. Only if there are mixed case chain ids in the pdb file
does the case in the selections matter.

Let me know if this doesn't help and I'll take a closer look.
It would be easiest for me to find out what's wrong if you send
me files to reproduce the problem.
