Postdoctoral Researcher
Chemical Imaging of Plant Biomass with Micro- and Nano-Raman
Spectroscopy
Job ID: UCB-013
Institution: Energy Biosciences Institute, Berkeley California
Date Opened: 5/10/2008

Position Description: Development of computational tools for the
analysis of chemical imaging data. Computational construction of three-
dimensional maps of plant cell wall material from Raman spectroscopy
measurements.

Position Responsibilities: Development of algorithms to indentify
chemical species from Raman spectroscopy measurements. Processing of
data to generate two-dimensional images of chemical components in
plant cell wall material. Use of tomographic methods to construct
three-dimensional images. Development of maximum likelihood methods to
extract information from weak spectroscopic data.

Position Qualifications: Strong computational skills with experience
in their practical application to imaging or complex data analysis.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the analysis
of spectroscopic data or imaging of biological samples. Experience
with programming languages: C/C++ and scripting languages: Python/
Perl. Demonstrated publication record in the computational analysis of
data and algorithm development. Ability to work in a team environment
and good communication skills. Ph.D. in physical chemistry, biology,
physics, computer science or related field. See the program
